Daydream
SHORT FILM
Daydream is a short film written and directed by Adam Mendez. I incorporated the production design process for this short into my M.F.A. thesis project from Savannah College of Art and Design.
The production design concept is “darkness underlies a happy-go-lucky surface” to reflect the script’s theme and director’s vision of consumerism, simulacra, and the male gaze.
The Daydream logo was one of the first design elements we completed. Daydream is the device that the main character purchases, which, at first, he is able to stream his dreams, but later falls into confusion, unable to differentiate between a streamed dream and reality. The final logo is a little hypnotic with repeating outlined shapes. The color palette and typeface is a paired to evoke retro futurism. The logo is used on the main character’s shirt and the package for the device.
